Lurking beneath the sleek corporate sheen and capitalist perfection of modern football is an undercurrent of fan-created fabric art. We're talking homemade football shirts, granny-knitted scarves and cardigans, painted banners and hand-stitched flags and pennants – unique items born of obsessive devotion. From early fan-made garments designed to be worn to the match, to bootleg gear that puts official club shop merch to shame, right through to cutting-edge fashion and contemporary art, this is an exploration of how innovative football supporters have used textiles to express their individuality and undying dedication.
